October 7, 2013 Announcement:

Dear Socio Students for all my classes:

I have been down with a bad virus over the weekend and I remain sick today, October 7. We will move all scheduled activities today to Thursday, October 10. Final Exams will be moved in the following week (October 14-18) and we will talk about our final exams schedules by Thursday as well.

It is expected that they are undergoing changes in their ways of living as well as experience pressures in selling off the land they have built their houses on. Probe the social effects of this community in terms of the economic, social (i.e. their families), and political consequences of the changes.

The Laguindingan market is one of the major markets servicing the towns of Gitagum and Libertad. With the new airport there are a host of challenges as well opportunities for market vendors. An issue they are facing is the problem of watersupply which affects the cleanliness of their stalls and the market.

Explore the history, issues of land-ownership of their stalls, and other issues involving the fruitstand vendors.

There are now vendors at the entrance of the highway leading to the airport. There was controversy in the last weeks since old vendors from Lumbia were in competition with the vendors from Laguindingan. The vendors from the area prevailed over the ones from Lumbia. Probe this issue.

There is a plan to convert the tri-municipality of AGILA to an aero-tourism area. Read “The Birds” article. You will interview the Municipal Planning and Development Officer of Gitagum regarding the history and plans for the Laguindingan airport.
